Take Me Home Tonight (2011– 97 mins) T. Grace, A. Faris, T. Palmer  

“Take Me Home Tonight” gets in that line of high school/college shenanigans movies. Think most any high school movie in which there is a quiet/geeky guy in high school who had a crush and sees her later and wants to score the girl of his dreams. It’s been used a thousand times but with smart writing good actors and great sound tracks they usually do very well. This one is no different in that the actors are good, the lines are funny, the story is wrapped up nicely and in a quick enough fashion, and there is the usual supply of T & A.

Topher Grace is Matt Franklin, said genius protagonist who went to the college of his dreams but kinda flaked out a bit and is now home hanging out with his twin sister (Faris) and typical idiot best friend (Dan Fogler). He is typically re-living the stories of yesteryear and what could have been in high school, and of course the one that got away (Teresa Palmer the requisite complete hottie). Seems she is going to be at a huge annual party thrown by Matt’s sister’s boyfriend that evening, AND she remembers Matt and interested to talk a bit. Now cue 80’s music, 80’s hair and 80’s talk as the trio goes to the party and hi-jinx ensue. There is the usual drugs, sex, rock and roll, deception and lies to get the girl (which as usual will come back to haunt our hero. There is nothing new here, but it’s not anything we have been bombarded with this year and it doesn’t feel old hat yet, and is actually kinda funny. Grace is still likable, and the stories work as always. We want to see the geeky witty guy get the girl and we want to see his idiot friend get laid.I can’t say so and so is good or bad here b/c it’s not much of a stretch and not very challenging for anyone here.

Verdict–> I liked the movie quite a bit. I did 80’s throw backs, loved everyone in this movie and thought it was pretty damn funny. It’s no “family” movie, but it’s a great rental. Well worth it for a weekend double feature and a top of the line recommendation from he red box. Pick it up you will laugh, especially if you grew up in the 80’s or 90’s!
