Redbox Review The Karate Kid (2010) # redbox

Published by under Movies,Red Box Reviews

The Karate Kid (2010– 140 mins) Jaden Smith, Jackie

It seems to be a big thing in Hollywood right now to do remakes. There are a lot of different ways directors like to go. Usually these remakes go with just the basic movie premise and then the story gets its modern twist to it. Take your Oceans 11 types for instance. Here we get a different take on the remake. We get almost a complete scene for scene updating of the original Karate Kid. The whole basic story takes the linear path of the orig. From meeting the bullies to the Miyagi/Han taking out the bullies to training and so on. This might be a turn off to some but to me it completely makes the new version 100x better.

Smith’s mom is transferred to China with her work and he has no choice but to fit in. While trying to mingle with some of the local kids he finds himself on the wrong end of some bullying when trying to talk to a cute girl he meets at the park. He then gets a steady diet of ass kickings till finally during one of these ass kickings the local handyman, Mr. Han (Chan) has had enough and comes to the kid’s rescue. Upon trying to get the kids to stop picking on Dre (Smith) the leader of the dojo declines the pledge of peace and Han suggests they all settle it in the local Kung Fu tourney. And thus we have the rest of the golden rags to riches Karate Kid story.

Let’s get one thing straight. The original Karate Kid, while cheesy by today’s standards, is a GREAT movie. It exemplifies the underdog story and has an amazing 80’s charm to it. As usual since the whole world just loved this movie I was skeptical and didn’t think it would be the best thing since sliced bread. As usual lately, I was wrong, but pleasantly surprised to be wrong. It turns out to be a very good movie and a good re-imaging of the original. Like I mentioned before the reason I think it gets a lot more kudos from me is how true and identical it stays to the original. I also have to say that Jaden Smith is a damn likable kid. He does a great job in the movie and we could have another star in the Smith family for sure.

Jackie Chan is also a great actor of our time for what he does, but he’s just not Pat Morita. He tries to be the mysterious mentor who likes to keep his past a secret but he just doesn’t get it to the extent Morita did. Don’t get me wrong he was still excellent, likable and did it well but I couldn’t help but think that he was no Morita in the role. In the end you still get the same warm fuzzy feeling when the movie is said and done and director Harold Zwart did an excellent job modernizing the story for the new age.

Verdict—> It’s a good family movie. Most anyone who has seen the original will like the way it’s done. I would put this on a nice short list of pick ups from the red box. Throw it with Ondine and have a nice 1-2 for a family double header, or date night.

Red Box Review– MacGruber (2010) #Redbox

Published by under Movies,Red Box Reviews

MacGruber (2010- 90 mins) Will Forte, KristenWiig, R. Phillipe, Val Kilmer

There has been a lot of movies over the years that have been based on skits on SNL. Some good, Night at the Roxburry, some bad, It’s Pat. There is a few things that I want to get out there before I go on. First, I am a huge SNL apologist. I have always loved SNL (even if they get too political at times and I almost always fast forward past the opening skit the last 2 -4 years) even thru the crap years I have found some good things to like about them. Often even a crap show has one or two real funny skits and the DVR is amazing for this as well. The other big thing is it’s no secret that when everyone in the world hates or loves something I will often go into said thing with the opposite view initially. It’s a bad habit but eh I’m human. Take this movie for instance. It’s no secret how the whole world said it was bad. But before I passed judgement I looked at who is in it. Forte,Wiig and Kilmer are among my favorite actors and all have some just great comedic minds. So I figured it couldn’t be all that bad with these people in it, and they had to be able to find some way of making the story funny and entertaining. And yet, it’s not. It’s a god-awful pile of monkey crap. I cannot believe how bad this movie was. I could not wait to get it over and get onto the next movie of the night. I even had more fun working then watching this debauchery.

Ok I’ll cover the “story” a little bit. MacGruber is a government super agent who comes out of seclusion to catch his arch-nemesis Dieter Von Cunth (Kilmer) who has a nuclear warhead and is hell bent on setting it off in Washington DC. Simple easy enough, sure. We all know MAcGruber is a misfit, sure no problem, and he’s an idiot. I get it. What I don’t get is how bad the script is and how bad the language is. Again, I am a guy, and I can take language of all kinds. After all I play hockey and the stuff that is said in a locker room would make most people either blush or vomit, but this movie just goes too far at times even for me. Of course it has some funny parts and lines and if I was playing poker or hanging with the guys drinking at 2am this movie might not seem too bad. But watching it anywhere else is just not a good thing.

Verdict—> This movie is so bad if anyone spends even a dollar on it I want to come to your house and club you myself.

Redbox Review- Ondine (2009) #Redbox

Published by under Movies,Red Box Reviews

Ondine (2009  111 mins) Colin Farrell, Alicja Bachleda

Ondine is a nice simple modern fantasy tale of a fisherman, Syracuse, (Farrell) who finds a woman trapped in his fishing net (Bachleda) whom he believes to be a mermaid. It’s quite a delightful movie with a nice laid back slow pace, which is just perfect for story telling. It’s easier to describe it as a story then a movie. Syracuse is a fisherman who is a recovering alcoholic with a daughter and an ex-wife. He leads a simple life which revolves around being the best dad and fisherman he can be. His daughter has kidney failure and he takes her to dialysis multiple times a week. Once he tells his daughter of the tale of a water woman she begins to get curious that it’s not just a “tale” after all. From here the story picks up but it never really goes too fast and never gets too hectic.

I enjoyed this movie b/c it never tries to get more then a story. It doesn’t fill itself with artificial conflict and never gets too complicated. Everything has a reason and a meaning afterall and you only have to slightly suspend disbelief in it. Colin Farrell has (in my opinion) come a long way as an actor. He has overcome the stigma of the bad boy and has actually started to become a good actor. From his good bit part in Crazy Heart, to a great portrayal in this movie I am impressed with his acting of late. He just does a great movie of carrying the movie almost single handedly.

Verdict–> Most people probably have not heard of this indy gem but I think most people will like it. It’s a simple fairy tale type story which is an enjoyable watch. I don’t even think it’s all that bad of a movie for over 12 or so to watch. A lot of people will like this from a good family movie to a good date movie. (Prolly not a good beer and chips movie for guys night tho!) Definitely pick this movie for a movie night.

Blizzcon Day 1 and Patch 4.0.1 (Part 2) #WoW

Published by under Uncategorized

So either for better or for worse I was pretty much right on with what was going down today at Blizzcon. They didn’t make any real groundbreaking announcements with regard to WoW, and they announced a new class for Diablo 3. There was some game modes announced for SC2 such as DOTA and a Left to Die (prob just fine and fun but yawn really).

So the new class for D3 is the Demon Hunter. It’s a ranged, trap, trick happy type play style rolled up into one. I am sure it’s going to be fun to play but seems like a bit of a cop out to me. You take the amazon and assassin from d2 mix them with the templar from Torchlight and you can sort of get the Demon Hunter. It’s not the end of the world, but I would forgive them alot easier if they would just release the game soon. It’s in the eternal work stage. I am fairly sure this has less to do with “when it’s done” and more to do with not flooding the market with products and getting their own products to compete with themselves. Which as a stock holder I am just fine with that in a sense but the gamer in me is annoyed.

But back to the announcement Blizz as usual has made a killer cinematic for their big reveal. And thanks to Gamespot here it is.

Ok now back to the GeekJock’s thoughts on the big patch 4.0.1 changes for the classes in WoW.

Next up on my most played toons is the Warlock. As everyone knows they have scrapped the old soulshard mechanic as it was. You no longer have to allot one who bag to 20 soulshards. Instead they are now stored up as part of your toon in 3 slots and charged up the same way you used to obtain the shards. These new stored shards are activated to buff up spells or abilities depending on the spec. For instance you can activate a soul shard and make soul fire an instant cast. (for more detailed info check out wowhead or wow insider for the real detailed info). When I was leveling I used affliction as my primary spec but changed over to destruction once I hit 80 and it’s just a blast to play. Sure it’s a bit bursty but with things dieing so fast as I keep saying, affliction is just too slow to have fun with. The boss fights and some raids it is a bit better to get some numbers with but for heroics destro is just makes you feel a bit more useful. Since the patch I have found destro to be great to play. The already fun spec seems to have been bolstered a bit and the DPS has also gone up.  I have read some reports that say Demonology spec is doing some good DPS but I just cannot wrap my head around using metamorphosis as much as you would need to. It’s a fun enough mechanic but putting yourself on the front line of fighting as a clothie (increases armour or not) just doesn’t seem like the best thing to me. So for now I’ll keep to the destro tree. But hey we got a month and ahalf to screw around and a whole half of the dual spec that I haven’t used hey maybe I will screw around with the Demon tree and see how I like it now. Destro is likely to be nerfed real soon so we will have to enjoy it while it lasts but for now I think that tree is a bit OP but fine with me!

The next class I had to go spec out is my Warrior. Like the DK I had, I had primarily been running my warrior as a Tank with the secondary spec being fury. Now in the recent time fury had been left behind a bit by arms, and Prot was a good tanking spec for sure. Now after the patch I have seen fury putting up some great numbers on the dps meters. My warrior has been doing so so numbers but again like the DK he doesn’t have the gear to put up good numbers on the DPS but he has some respectable gear for tanking. Tanking after the new patch doesn’t look to be much different from the past. Some things have changed, and like some others (DK, and pali as I am going to discuss in a sec) AOE tanking has gotten thrown a bit into the back seat so it becomes more of a thinking mans tanking. I am all for having to actually pay attention to what you are doing while tanking b/c I always have been annoyed at the fact that some tanks (mostly pali’s) could watch a movie and tank a heroic with no issues at all. As for arms after some initial balancing it’s back to being a usable spec now after a bit of a nerf early on in 4.0.1. I think I will continue to try and wrap my head fully around the tanking rotation and getting some better gear to tank easier and easier b/c with all the pew pew of using my Lock and Hunter (and tanking with the DK) I have neglected my tanking skills a bit on the warrior so I will have to find some time to buildhim up some more. Ok onto the holy power talks….

Now onto the new world of Pali’s. The Paladin has undergone somewhere in the neighborhood of 4 overhauls over the years. So this is nothing new that they have given us a whole new mechanic of Holy Power. It’s another charge up mechanic a-la some of the rogue charges but stores on the Pali rather then who he attacks. The charges then can be used to cast a quick hear or more importantly some damage attacks by the pali. If you want to read up more on this mechanic as well check out Wow insider or wowheadagain. So how do I feel about the changes to the tree’s and the Holy power? Well it def takes some getting used to using it for tanking and such, but much different then the old mechanic with the 800 judgements. The harder part is that they increased the cool down a bit on consecrate, made it a bit weaker and overall took out some of the ease of AoE tanking. I know they wanted to make it a little more labor intensive but just like the DK tanking having the DPS to wait a few mins before starting to bombard the dps meters isn’t the easiest thing inthe world. Apparently the Retribution spec has taken some abuse with lower then normal DPS but the playstyle to me, is one that carries some fun with it. One of the big boppers in the tree is sanctified wrath.  Not only does it (at 3 points) reduce the cooldown of avenging wrath by 1 min but it lets you use hammer of wrath at all times when AW is active. Sure HoW still has it’s own CD but you are able to fire off a few of these every time AW is active. And as I have seen HoW can do some killer damage each time. The other night on my Pali (only level 79) I was getting regular hits of 12k damage per HoW. I am sure this will be nerfed but at a small 2 min cooldown this AW will be triggered quite a bit. So maybe the DPS isn’t so far down as it is people haven’t gotten used to using the Ret spec to it’s fullest? Only time will tell again.

So as far as specs go I like what they have done all over the place. I can’t really say a whole lot on the other half of the classes (Priest, Shaman, Rogue,Druid, Mage) only b/c I don’t have those advanced in any way to level 80 so I cannot intelligently speak on what was changed and how it plays. But if they play anywhere like the others I am sure they will be enjoyed by all.

Tonight I will go over the final day of Blizzcon (hopefully they give us something good or else this is quite the fail of a con) and the last part of my review of the new patch as I talk about a change to a couple of things in the UI.

Blizzcon starts today, My thoughts on it and my 4.0.1 thoughts (part 1) #WOW

So the biggest World Of Warcraft party starts today in Cali. Yep, good old Blizz-con is this weekend and unfortunately the GeekJock has to work, so no trip for me. BUT, I remain anxious to see what big announcements Blizzard has in store for us loyal followers of everything in their brand.  Every year they surprise us with something awesome and I am hoping that this year is no different. However, looking through the schedule of today’s events there isn’t a whole lot of places I think an announcement will take place. Today we look at the opening ceremonies (any general announcement could be here… Top secret MMO? Doubtful but you never know). The next possibility is during the noon hour where they have Diablo 3 game play slotted on the main stage. This is where I think they will reveal a ton about D3, possibly a class, and hopefully a release window. I doubt the release thing since it won’t be announced for sure till they know it’s DONE. But I think we will get a ton of game play and a class today.

The rest of the panels today are WoW. Wow dungeons, lore and then a Live Raid. Honestly, I can care less about these things and the bunch of Starcraft that will be on display too. It’s not that I don’t want to hear stuff about WoW, b/c obviously I do. This last patch has me reinvigorated for the game and I played a ton last week. But the thing is, I know all I want to know already about these. We all know a ton about Cataclysm already and frankly, I can care less about watching someone raid. If it’s one of those take the best guild in the world and throw bosses at them like last year well… YAWN… and if it’s Cat related then I don’t really want to see it anyway. I have been reading up on enough to be familiar with things for the expansion but I have been purposely avoiding the multitudes of beta invites I have gotten/been offered b.c I want to experience the finished product. I don’t really want to test it when I want to play it as bad as I do. It’s not like some other games where open beta is the preview before you buy so to speak. I am already sold, I want to play the finish product, and not pay them to help them test it basically. So like I mentioned there is not a whole lot of optimism for any big announcements today. I bet we get 2 right away with the opening ceremonies and the D3 hour but after that it will be all smoke and mirrors to make people oohhh and ahhh over stuff we already know.  I won’t go into my thoughts for day 2 until tonight when hopefully they will have proved me wrong and I can be stoked about what is to come on the final day. Either way I am looking forward to hopping on the computer when I get up from sleeping this am to see what we got for news!

Ok now onto my thoughts about the big patch drop last week… 4.0.1!!!!

Unless you have been living under a rock, if you play WoW you know a week and a half ago they dropped the bigtime patch that changed all thing talent related. We got the new trees, focus for hunters, new shard mechanics for Warlocks, and the the “holy power” mechanic for pali’s.

Before I get into the class opinions I want to talk quickly about the change to emblems. Blizz took all the raid and dungeon type emblems and made everything a ton easier by simplifying them to just Justice points and honor points. When I logged into my toons what I found was a decent amount of these Justice points and even some higher honor points numbers (I am not much of a PVPer so those #’s have never been very high). On most of my 80’s I had anywhere from 1000 to 3300 points. Being that a Tier 10 piece is roughly 1100 all of my guys found themselves with anywhere from 1-3 pieces of T10 gear right away! This was pretty solid b/c for one my Death Knight went from a hodgepodge of T9 and others, he now has 4 pieces of T10 and is raring to go. Now if I can only get 100% handle on the blood tanking stuff he’ll be all set, but more on that later when I get to DK. The only problem I see with the points thing is we are going to get another type of points once the Cataclysm dungeoning and raiding occurs so again we will be back to square one with a bunch of different currencies which is just plain dumb to me and the whole reason they are trying to simplify it all. Hopefully this wont be a problem but who knows.

One thing I have noticed since the patch is everyone seems to be OP in heroics. There could very well be an explanation for this and I have my own theory. I think that Blizz wants us to know that if you are geared out in all T10 gear that things in heroics SHOULD die real quick. You will basically be out gearing the content by then. So what we are seeing now is the majority of the people still running heroics are decked out in either all T9 or T 10 or a miss-mash of the 2. Either way they know the fights and have the gear, which makes for some over killing at lightning paces. But hopefully this means that if a group were to go into heroics with all 200 ilevel gear or just below that it would actually be a challenge to them. Probably not but hey a man can have his theories…

Next up we have all the class changes. I won’t talk about everything b/c not only do I NOT know everything, I don’t play everything and all specs. So I will only give my opinions on the classes/specs I have either played or come accross in playing. So you will get no bones answers to the specs I like and don’t like.

First off is my main from the beginning, my Hunter. I went primarily with Survival (as usual) as my first choice. Surv really seems to be the better of the two primary shooter specs. I didn’t really play any BM but I am sure it’s fine as well, but Surv was ablast to play and get used to. The only real times I played any BM were the last 8-10 or so levels while leveling in northrend (but not in dungeons). I have heard it’s still as fun as it was back then so I doubt anyone will be avoiding this spec at all. As for MM, I tired it out but I just didn’t see it as much fun right now and the DPS to me seemed a bit lower. I am sure this changes when you get cobra shot at 81, and that’s likely where it changes over to the powerful side of things.  The big change as any hunter by now has heard, is that mana is gone and focus is the new way of paying for shots. Just like our pet generated focus and basically just like how power regenerates for rogues, it starts off at 100 and each one of your special shots (arcane shot, kill shot etc) costs focus to fire. It basically regens on it’s own or as you cast steady shot it will regen at a quicker rate. The biggest problem right now is that everything dies so fast in the heroics that it’s hard to get a grasp on how much of this you will need to do and the best roation. Sure everyone can theory craft the hell out of shot rotations but until we get harder dungeon/leveling fighting challenges, things will just continue to die quick and not enough time to work steady shot into the regen rotation. The next huge change is VOLLEY IS GONE. This will take a bunch of people by surprise and most of us will go looking for it when we get the 1st heroic pull and realize it’s not on our bar from before and lo and behold we don’t have it in our spell book. WTF?? Well now they have made multi-shot basically our AOE shot. Problem is for everyone other then Survival hunters it’s basically a big fat waste of time and focus b/c it doesn’t do enough damage. For surv we have a few talents to make it worth it. First we get one that applies Serp Sting to each target and then another which does some immediate damage from each of our SS shots. (I am not 100% sure if this applies the immediate damage when it’s applied via Multi shot but I have to assume it does. But still all the write ups say only use Multi for 3+ targets. As usual we hope for Lock N Load procs and kill shot for all the main DPS we get. Bottom line is hunter has been REAL fun and not all that hard to get used to if you have been playing one for a while.

My next toon I went to was my Death Knight. This was a bit more of a challenge. In the past I was primarily a Frost Dual-weilding Tank. Admittedly, I knew that Blood spec was going to be the only one for tanking as of Cataclysm, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to keep doing what I knew, and I knew I would have plenty of time to get used to the new spec and roll from there. The other problem with enjoying both Tanking and unholy, is one spec almost always suffers from lack of gear since you are not going to spend emblems/points on 2 separate types of Tier gear. So for me I have 4 T10 and 1 T9 for tanking and basically a rag tag set of heroic DPS gear. Which prolly isnt so bad now that all the stats like DEF and such have been eliminated, b/c I can just use a few of the old/new tanking gear. Which seems to work as a good enough stopgap while I run heroics for DPS gear and more justice points to use on DPS. The re-vamped specs themselves are real fun as well. The blood tree doesn’t seem too much changed so most old blood tanks won’t have much of a problem with this. The big thing from the unholy tree that I liked is the talent Dark Transformation. This spell can be activated after 5 stacks of shadow infusion are on your ghoul (they get applied after death coil casts either on mobs or to heal). Once you get to 5 you get the ability to transform your ghoul into a lumbering tank doing 100% more damage. A nice dps machine with the usual other pluses you get from other abilities etc. It’s just plain fun to use as well. Making the little guy into a lumbering beast of death is awesome.

I haven’t used frost at ALL so I cannot comment on it. The problem with tanking in 4.0.1 has been that they have seemingly removed some of the big threat generators out of most classes. That and the new talents, coupled with the buffed gear, has made for some threat issues. It’s not a major issue with talent mind you, but it seems now that you have to try a bit harder initially in fights to grab as much aggro as possible b/c not to many DPSers are smart enough or patient enough to wait that little bit for you to get aggro. SURE, this was the way we all had to do it back in the day but people are just too damn impatient with the content they have flown thru a thousand times. Even with all that I haven’t had much problems in heroics holding aggro but I can’t say when everyone is blowing cooldowns at the beginning of some boss fights that I have been flawless. I have lost the odd DPS in a fight b/c they got overzealous and got 1 shotted by the boss. But eh they haven’t complained at all. I think they know the golden rule of fights now…. If you die b/c you pulled aggro IT’S YOUR FAULT. Plain and simple. I am a DPS minder player 1st and it’s one thing I keep in mind in all fights. As for using my unholy spec in heroics, it’s been fun like I said but my DPS is still down a bit. As hard as it is to try and get a couple of diseases on targets and spread them as a tank, it’s that much harder to use them as rotation as a DPS. So it’s still been wing it rotations and so so DPS (like  I said some of that has to do with crap for DPS gear).

Comming up later I will finish with talking about my Warrior, Lock and Pali and hopefully the info is out and I can give some opinions on today at Blizzcon.

Pic of the Green Lantern Power Battery

Published by under Movies

The Daily Blam snagged a pic of the Green Lantern Power Battery from the upcoming movie and here it is!
There will be debates for and against it but the GeekJock approves. It looks like something from space, which it should. The older one in the comics always looked like something you would camp with, and people who critique movies would blast that. So something more “authentically” spacey/alien looking is cool with me.
Man I can’t wait to see this movie!

Cataclysm Videos released… Cinematic is EPIC

Published by under MMOs,World of Warcraft

Ok so this weekend marked two great videos. First was the Comercial during the Cowboy’s debacle. The second was the Cinematic for the Cataclysm Expansion. The only problem I ever have with these is they are SOOOO damn good that I wish they were longer. I would prolly pay to watch a 90-120 min movie in the theater if it looked like the quality of these cinematics. Not the in game ones we get but the REAL good ones with each release. The Orig release one is great as were the next 3 expansion ones.

Check em out and let me know what you think of em!

New York Islanders 2-1-2 (6 pts)

Published by under Hockey,Islanders

The Isles have played their first five games and each game has been exciting. Gordon’s aggressive forechecking style has opponents scrambling. Opening night started off with another appearance by the injury bug as John Tavares went off with a head injury in the 1st period. He ended up missing essentially the first four games. The Isles rallied from 4-2 in the 3rd to force OT and lose in the shootout. The rags came in and again the Isles came from behind, this time to win 6-4. After a tough road loss to the Caps 2-1, the boys came back from a 2-0 hole at Pittsburgh to fall in OT. Yesterday, the Isles finally took one somewhat comfortably by beating the Avs 5-2 on the island.

This group has already shown that it is a “never say die” group. A squad that can give you a solid sixty minutes. Something that could not be said of any Islander team in recent memory. The power play was 7th in the league coming into last night’s Avs game and the Isles have outshot their opponents 63-39 in 3rd periods. The real test begins Monday night against the 4-0-0 undefeated Maple Leafs up in Toronto. This will be a solid gutcheck and character builder for the team as 10 of the next 12 games are on the road. As long as they can compete and pick up points along the way, the latter half of the season will have bunches of home games and *fingers crossed* Okposo and Streit back in the fold.

Some player bulletpoints..

Josh Bailey has risen above and beyond. The young forward has looked like a grizzled veteran, showing awesome leadership qualities and an uncanny knack for knowing where his teammates are on the ice. This guy hasn’t taken a shift off and has arguably been the Isles top player.

Doug Weight looks like he has been bathing in the hot tub time machine. He’s got wheels we haven’t seen in years. An excellent choice for the captain’s “C”, Dougie has the cool calm demeanor that will be key in keeping the boys focused and relaxed during these long road stretches.

Blake Comeau is showing off his sniper skills early on. A surprisingly quick burst of speed and he has been the engineer of many odd-man breakouts. He can score the highlight reel goal and the dirty goal.

Nino Neiderreiter the 18 year old rook has already proved that he belongs. What I am impressed with most is this kid’s ability and presence of mind to get back on defense. I’ve seen a number of quick breakouts by opposing teams where Nino seemingly was caught deep in the attacking zone and BANG there he is breaking up the play! Very excited about this kid, to say the least.

Zenon Konopka hasn’t thrown down the gloves as much as I expected but, he has shown me something that I did not know he possessed and that’s his faceoff skills. Scott Gordon has called on him numerous times in must-win faceoff situations. He has even created a few scoring chances and shown that he is not just a brutish goon.

Andy MacDonald has become this writer’s favorite Islander. “Easy Mac” is as cool as the other side of the pillow. This guy just doesn’t make any mistakes. I don’t think he knows how to spell the word “turnover” and he rarely if ever, gets caught deep in the attacking zone. Andy is getting quality minutes and I wish we could clone him.

Mark Eaton and Mike Mottau have been the shakiest defensemen in my opinion. Both veterans but, they have shown a lack of speed and in Eaton’s case a lack of puck control. I don’t think the blueline situation is dire enough to have to make a trade but, with Martinek, Jurcina, MacDonald, Eaton, Mottau and Wisniewski the Isles should be able to get the minutes. I’d be interested in seeing what Calvin deHaan can do but, he’s probably better off spending the year on the farm.

Rick DiPietro has been shaky at times in the early going but, has also made some huge stops. He is our horse for better or worse and I believe that as the season wears on, he will catch his stride. Roloson has played wonderfully in his two starts versus the Caps and Avs.

Below is a video image of what James Wisniewski did to earn him a two-game suspension. It may have been a foolish thing to do but, it was against Sean Avery after all and it made him an instant fan favorite in my eyes. Welcome to the Isles Wiz, LOVE IT! Also, I’ve added a couple of pictures I took from opening night.

Get Ready Oct 30th… Red: Werewolf Hunter

Published by under Movies,TV

Ok GeekJock friends and Felicia Day fans, in a little over a week SyFy Saturday Movie will be a great Halloween flick. Red: Werewolf Hunter stars Felecia Day as a the fabled Red Riding Hood, but here as part of a secret family of werewolf hunters. All of that spells pure GeekJock goodness. I grabbed a few videos from SyFy and posted them below. Make sure you tune in should be a fun watch and of course Felicia Day is in it so it HAS to be good.

Pumpkins at the house… Almost time for the carving!

Published by under Random Sh-stuff

Ok so maybe it’s about 2 weeks away but the preparations are already started. First and foremost for anyone who wonders, I have ZERO artistic talent. I can’t draw a stick figure at all. Yet one thing I have gotten pretty good at is carving pumpkins. Sure, it’s basically take a stencil and throw it on a pumpkin cut and go, but I happen to think it’s more then that. With a few years of doing it and accumulating more tools and more techniques, I think I am getting pretty good. Granted, I am not as good as some of these books you see out there and don’t sign me up for any food network Challenge show, but I enjoy what I do.

The beautiful wife and I usually go to a bunch of places around town early in the Halloween season to see what new and good stencil books are out there. This year I picked up a few new ones so hopefully there will be some good things to work with. Not quite as many new ones as I would like but eh we will have to see what I can find in the next two weeks before the big day of the carve fest. If anyone knows of some good ones online (free) or what stores have some good books please let me know!

Here are two of my past works. (One is a bit blurry sorry, can’t seem to find the good picture of it) If I can find the others I will try and edit the post later— I think Mrs. Geekjock might know where those files are located.
