Red Box Review:The Back-up Plan

Published by under Movies,Red Box Reviews

The Back-up Plan (2010– 106 mins) J-Lo, A. O’Loughlin

The Back-up Plan is a generic rom-com about a woman (J-Lo) who has had no luck with dating in life and has decided that she wants a family now, so she gets artificially inseminated. As life happens she meets the man of her dreams (O’Loughlin) on the same day she gets the procedure done. From there the usual things pop up. She gets mad at him for one thing or another then he gets mad at her for one thing or another, but deep down you can tell the characters truly do love each other. And after the usual Rom-Com stuff the movie gets on with the pregnancy and story and overall isn’t too bad of a watch. Chicks will like it and guys won’t hate it.

On a side note I just hate J-Lo but she did a good job here working opposite of O’Loughlin (who I actually like as an actor). On the surface the pairing really seem like an awful pairing for a movie but they do a decent job of manufacturing chemistry. I am really hoping that Alex finds his niche on CBS’ new envisioning of Hawaii Five-O b/c he’s a good actor. They have been trying to cram him down our throats as the next big CBS drama star. They had him in the vampire detective show Moonlight, which I loved but it was cancelled about a year before the vampire craze hit. I think if they even re-started the show it might be more of a hit now and be able to make it a few seasons, b/c it really was a good show. Then they had him in a doctor drama, and now tryng the cop drama thing. So Iam rooting for him since he’s a good,like-able actor.

Another thing that made me laugh in the movie was the scenes in the pet shop that    Zoe (J-Lo) owns. The whole dynamic is straight out of You’ve Got Mail. You have the witty sidekick guy orig played by Steve Zaun (Eric Christian Olsen, here actually seeming to do his best Zaun impression), and the close friend playing the Heather Burns part (Noureen DeWulf). It’s kind of subtle but it might give you a slight chuckle to notice the blatant coincidences.

Verdict—> No real new Rom-Com territory here but it’s not bad. If the little lady wants to watch it or if you want to give that date a comedy she might like for the brownie points, then it’s worth it.

Red Box Review: Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

Published by under Movies,Red Box Reviews

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2010–116mins) J. Gyllenhaal, B. Kingsley,G. Atherton, A. Molina

When a movie is a blockbuster action release they always put out a video game for it, and 99.999% of the time it sucks. Other times they put out a movie based on a video game. Some of these suck (Doom, Super Mario Bros), and some of these are decent (Resident Evil). This movie based on a series of video games, but most notably the game which re-started the excitement of the franchise back in 2003. This was a game which was just simply brilliant, even for the original XBOX! It had good controls, combos, and the all new reverse time mechanic. But, back to the new movie. Of course there was a TON of hype for the movie. For me, it lived up to the hype to a certain extent but more importantly it was just a good movie.

Allow me this few mins to get on my soapbox, as usual, to bitch about the role of media and mostly critics to deep six this movie’s rep and ultimately hurt it’s box office. Right from the beginning the media just wanted to shoot this movie down. This lead to their own hype machine influencing reviewers to blast it as well. And such the people just stayed away.  To date the movie has only made in the area of 90 million (per IMDB). These newspaper and Internet reviewers all jumped on board like the lemmings they are. They are an embarrassment to the industry. These are the people who just can’t get enough of boring pieces of crap like Out Of Africa, and just can’t sit back and enjoy a fun romp in the desert like Price of Persia. These morons shouldn’t be paid for their works, and what even bothers me more is they get paid to watch movies and get to see them before we all do! Piss on you movie critics. [[Steps off soapbox]]

Ok back to the movie at hand. The movie revolves around the adoptive price Dastan (Gyllenhaal) who stumbles upon a fabled magical dagger while the empire is invading a holy city they believe to be selling swords to their enemies. After all this Dastan is framed for killing his adoptive father, the king, and the adventure begins. He escapes with the magical dagger and the princess of the captured city who is also the protector of the dagger’s secrets. The Dagger in question has the ability to turn back time which initially we think is a secret but it turns out more people know about it then we think. The big adventure is finding out who framed Dastan and trying to get the dagger to safety. It’s a nice fast paced actiony flick with some humor thrown in there as well. One of the great things I loved is all the homages to the orig. gameplay. The climbing up walls, various acrobatics, swinging from the rafters, and the funny banter between Dastan and the princess really hit home well with me and just made me want to break out my X-Box and play the old classic. The story is good, the effects are good, and it’s an easy to follow movie as well.

Some people won’t like an aspect of the ending which I thought played well with the plot and yet still left me satisfied. And at just under 2 hours I am happy with the time b/c of it being a summer blockbuster but that could be a turn off to some as well. It’s really 2 movies rolled into one. Dastan saving his name and then them trying to save the dagger. I think it’s a good movie for a sat night with the family. (It’s PG-13  prolly mostly b/c of violence and a bunch of snakes in it).

Verdict—> This is a great rental for anyone. Good action flick for a weekend with the fam or for a date night. I reccomend this as a rental , and in fact I will prolly even buy it on Blue-Ray to see how great it looks. Grab it ASAP if it’s there when you go renting.

DCUO Cinematic trailor with director and DC maven commentaty

Published by under MMOs,Random Sh-stuff

Last night I saw the commentary video for the DC Universe Online cinematic. It’s got Jim Lee from DC Comics and Tim Miller from Blur studio sitting down and talking about the whole cinematic basically scene by scene. It doesn’t matter if you are like me and love all things DC comics or if you just like cool cinematics, there are some great treats in the regular trailor and also some hidden gems they point out as well. As usual I have to say I am still hopeful (but not very optimistic) that this will be a good game but it’s going to take a bunch of in game cinematics like this to make me really thirst for more.

This is a must watch so take the 10 mins and enjoy! (Not particularly SFW..some language but it’s not teri-bad for work either). A special thank to one of my fav sites www.massively.com for bringing this to my attention.

New Guild Video is up… Season 4 episode 10… Getting close to the finale!

Published by under The Guild

The season is starting to wind down on the guild and it’s getting good! Looks like the guildies (and co-workers!) are starting to come together and help Codex out. A good guild sticks together after all! Enjoy this one, it’s one of my favorites of the season.

Extra Kudos to the guys for putting in the guy with the Big Ban Theory shirt. He’s wearing the Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock shirt. (Which you can also purchase on www.thinkgeek.com go pick one up!).

SWTOR Smugler Class Video

Published by under MMOs

The guys over at Machinima.com have unveiled a first look at the Smuggler class from SWTOR. If you are the guy who likes the Doc Holiday approach rather then the nice way to do the good guys bidding, then this class could be for you. Seems like some stealthy fun and blaster pistol action too. Check it out for yourself below and let me know. The true question is, will people be able to be away from lightsabres long enough to play anything other then a Jedi or Sith? We will have to see. I suspect that they will have to make these quite fun to play and powerful and tons of loot. We all love Han solo but we all want to be a Jedi in some form deep down.

Canes Fall 4-1 in pre-season, GeekJock thoughts on the game.

Published by under Hockey,Hurricanes

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Yes the leaves are starting to change and that means one thing. HOCKEY SEASON! Last night I took my son (3 yo) to the opening night of the pre-season schedule for the Canes, and despite it being new season-same results it was still good to get back into our old seats again.  As usual, it was a good mix of starters and guys who will eventually be in Charlotte (AHL) and even some who will be sent back to their JR team. You saw the biggest test of the young guys up the middle. Maurice threw the kids into the fire by puttingDalpe, Skinner, and Nashat the Center position. I kinda liked that idea, throw them in see if the sink or swim. Some sank, some swam (more onthat later). The vets on the ice included LaRose, Kostopoulos, Ruutu, Gleason, Dwyer and Babcuk, as you can see a decent amount of the regulars missing but with this “youth movement” they have going on that’s to be expected. But now the re-cap.

Recap—> The Canes came out skating real well. They forced the play early and drew a nice penalty a little under 3 mins into the game.  Then just under a minute later the refs called the most questionable “ticky-tack” penalty of the game. They Called Tuomo Ruutu for an interference penalty when he was getting back out of the zone on an offside play. Normally eh no big deal, but this lead to a microcosm of the whole 09-10 season in the next span of 2 mins.  On the ensuing faceoff while 4 on 4 the Panthers MShawn Matthias won the draw back to 1st round pick (3rd overall) ,young gun D man Erik Gudbranson who  promptly unloaded a bomb of a slap shot right past Cam Ward for the opening goal.  One minute later when the Panthers went on the Power Play, Mike Santorelli took the puck on the left side and went around slow as dirt Anton Babcuk and ripped a laser wrist shot over the just as slow glove hand of Cam Ward (Who I love as a goalie but simply has the worst glove hand in the league)  for the 2-0 lead. Natrually the bleeding didn’t end there. With a scrum in front of Ward the Panthers were able to get the 3rd goal in 2 mins on a rolling puck that found it’s way inside the far post. BAM a good start turns into a 3-0 deficit and we aren’t even 6 mins into the game! But, the Canes would settle down. The rest of the 1st period was ugly and they pretty much just weathered the storm, but from then on out they controlled the play and really out played the Panthers out shooting them 23-11 the 2nd and 3rd periods but still only managing 1 goal each on the scoreboard.

While the Canes were shorthanded, from a Riley Nash hooking call, Tom Kostopoulos fought hard on the boards and knocked the puck free to the center where newly acquired Patrick O’sullivan grabbed the loose puck and skated up the left side. Anton Babcuk was already a bit high in the zone so he had no problem charging up on the play for the 2 on 1 rush. O’Sullivan made a great pass thru the D-man and Babcuk put the gimme into the net for the lone Cane goal of the night.

My Toughts on the game and the players—> Well, it looks like a blowout on the scoreboard but honestly, that’s not what pre-season is all about. Sure I say it was the same old same old Canes but we can draw some good, some bad, and some ugly from the game.

The Good—> I was REAL impressed with Patrick O’Sullivan. I think this was a great pick up by Rutherford to get him, and get him so cheap (less then 1mil!) and he looks like he will contribute quite a bit in the low pressure environment. Think how Samsonov shined when he came here, not needing to be THE MAN by all the press findings etc. Also good was Zac Dalpe. He played a nice mobile center, showed some good hands and really looked like he belonged. A lot of hype is on this kid around here, and I for one love the kid, I hope he can stay with the club. Either way I think he will contribute in good time. As expected a couple of the vets on the team showed some good hustle in the 1st game. LaRose and Kostopoulos both had their game faces and hard working shoes on as they grinded and mucked it up. I liked the chemistry they showed and had some good PK time in there as well.

The Bad—> D- Play in front of the net. Boy this was brutal. The Canes just don’t have the grit or the fight infront of their own net. They are just too timid. When you are the overgrown Anton Babchuk at 6’5″ and 212 lbs, you just can’t be this much of a WUSS. He gets tossed around like he’s not even there. The other D (Borer, Sanguinetti, McBain) just looked out matched and out works in front of the net as well, and this lead to 2 of the goals last night. Gleason did do a good job holding his cool late in the game when Triston Grant a nobody just trying to make the team, tried to show something to the coaches by fighting him. Grant dropped the gloaves and Gleason didn’t take the bait behind the net. Good job Timmy nothing good could have come of that in this pre-season game. Regular season I know Gleason will be there to stick up for his teammates but this was not the time or place.

The Ugly—> I have 2 but they may both have some sort of explanation. First  the skating. Guys were falling all over the place. They just looked bad at times. No one looked worse then Jeff Skinnereither with his skating. He was pushed off the puck so easy and fell at even the slightest touch from a defender. This worries me a bit b/c the big knock on him at the draft was his skating was not up to NHL par. However, in the post game news conference Paul Maurice said the team did not have much legs but that’s a good thing. He said “if they did have a lot of legs then I am obviously not pushing them enough inthe first 3 days of training camp”. Good point Paul and ok I will buy it. I just hope the Skinner we keep hearing about (the MVP of all these tourneys and camps) comes thru and he is ready for the show or else it won’t be the minors (too young) it will be back to juniors for one more year for him. Also REAL ugly was Jamie McBain, Sanguinetti and Babchuk but for different reasons. McBain just couldn’t find the handle on the puck all night. He’s the new co-quarterback on the PP (Corvo or Pitkanen likely to be on the other side of the 1st unit when either are healthy) and he needs to be bringing the puck up and passing with authority. It was just not there. Sanguinetti and Babchuk were just shitty all night long. Both slow in feet, neither could pass or defend, and just looked bad. Sanguinetti is likely headed to the minors anyway to develop some more, and I hope he does b/c I like him as a skater and his make up, but he’s just not ready. As for Babchuk, he’s going to be my whipping boy all year. I hate him, I hate that he’s a giant but a giant WUSS on the ice. Sure a hammer of a slapper but he’s got an attitude problem and can’t check anyone. All he would need to do is put on some more weight and get a mean streak and I might change my tune but right now Anton you suck.

The thing to remember as usual, is it’s pre-season. Some guys looked like they are not ready for the show. Drayson Bowman, Casey Borer (coming off the injury after the bus accident a few years ago so we will give him a pass), Sanguinetti, Matsomoto all are likely to be Charlotte Checkers by the end of next week. But others like Dalpe and Nash made a good enough impression on me right now to say they could stick around some more.

Let’s go Canes.

Plants Vs Zombies in WoW:Cataclysm? YES PLEASE!

Published by under World of Warcraft

First a thanks to PCGamer.com for pointing this out, and most importantly thanks to The Cynical Britt for yet another great Cataclysm beta movie. For those who do not know him “TotalBiscuit” or The Cynical Britt is one of the hardest working podcasters out there (Second only to the legendary Scott Johnson) with regard to WoW and gaming in general. He has been doing an amazing job covering new things from the Cataclysm beta. He’s thrown up great videos on things such as the UI and Archaeology as well.

Today’s killer movie however, shows us how Blizzard is always using their noggin to bring things from pop culture/ the real world that we all love. Here is is Plants vs Zombies! In the video below you can see how they have a nice long quest chain in which you play peacebloom vs Ghouls or something of the like. It’s a mini game which will give you a ton of EXP during the chain and still keep you wanting more. It seems quite fun and addicting and of course I can’t wait to play it.

Thanks Blizzard, b/c it seems you might actually be making this wait well worth it for all of us!

Brandon Jacobs loses his lid into the stands and he’s not the worst part of the story!

Published by under General Sports

Tonight’s much hyped “Manning Bowl” was a pure dud. Peyton crushed the Giants and younger brother Eli to the tune of 38-14. Which is not all that unexpected. What is a bit unexpected is that now backup running back for the G-Men Brandon Jacobs lost his cool and threw his helmet into the Indy crowd. And the wost part of this? It’s not the worst part of the story!  Apparently, Jacobs claims that he tried to throw his helmet into the ground/bench area and it got caught on his finger and slipped 10 rows deep into the crowd. This I can actually buy. He’s an idiot blow hard overpaid athlete for doing it, but hey I still buy it. The most important part to take away from this is that NO ONE GOT HURT. Which is a good thing.

The annoying/worse part of this comes after. The fan who caught the projectile that was flung in his general direction, thought he had a souvenir. Wouldn’t we all? Sure we would. Well, that’s not what the stadium officials thought. They decided they wanted the helmet back. The great thing is this guy said nope it’s mine, and a little altercation of sorts happened. This was all caught on tape by NBC and they even got the stadium attendant RIPPING the helmet out of the guys hands! Of course once the cops were on their way they stopped showing it, mostly b/c I am sure some NFL suit realized, um wait we just did an asshole thing to one of our fans we better stop showing it. I have since tried to find more footage of it, but it’s all been taken down every where I look, and all we get are still images everywhere or “video no longer available”. Great cover up job NBC/NFL. I am sure they are looking into this and I am hoping we hear tomorrow they made it right to the fan, with some sort of signed this or that for him. It was just a disgrace to see the way they treated this guy.

I have seen this before at baseball games. Guys lose their bats into the stands when it slips out of their hands and the hitter wants the bat back to use now. However, I have always then (when I am there myself) seen a team rep come and give that fan SOMETHING of the player or the team. Usually these things are good signed items or another bat for him. There are plenty of stories of people selling the big HR balls, but there are also some stories out there of players getting a ball from a fan for free and they will generally give them something signed like a jersey or something in return for the milestone ball. That’s just the right thing to do. The NFL/Colts/Giants need to make this right. It’s a black eye on the stadium and the team and the moron Jacobs as well. Don’t get me wrong I am 99.9999% sure Jacobs will get his. Nfl commissioner Roger Goodell is a notorious hard ass, and Giants head coach Tom Coughlin is possibly just as much of a hard ass as well, so I am sure one way or another Jacobs will be fined a decent amount and or sitting a game or two.  If guys get fined tens of thousands of dollars for TD celebrations, I am sure a flying helmet is good for some cash as well.

You know it’s going to be a long night when your lace rips pre-game…

Published by under Uncategorized

Finally it’s the beginning of the fall season of Ice-hockey in the beer leagues I play in on Sunday (and another league on Mondays).  Since I work the night hours and obviously cannot play on my weeks on I play 2 nights on my weeks off to make up the exercise (and lost beer swigging with the guys!). Any-hoo, tonight was my 1st game of this season and naturally my luck has it that our game is the LATE game of the night. So 10:45pm we start. While getting dressed the omen happens, I broke a skate lace. Never a good thing. Why? Normally I would say b/c I am superstitious, but at this stage of the game, and since it’s just the old regular season, it was more because I didn’t want to get on the ice late. I can really care less about the whole mojo of it. Also, being the late game and apparently most of our team are either drunk after Sunday football, or whiny little bitches who don’t want to play so late at night (and you know who you are) we only had 6 skaters and the goalie. For the math challenged or hockey challenged out there, that’s 1 damn sub the whole game.

Luckily we had some of the young guns show up and 1 of em just loves to play iron-man hockey and didn’t come off at all (more rest for the rest of us haha) so it was tiring but could have been worse. Even better, we happened to win the game despite my complete lack of hands out there on D. I am usually no threat at all to score from the point ( a normal pane of glass wouldn’t be afraid of me on a good day), but tonight I couldn’t do a whole lot right with the puck. Passes going off me, flubbing passes… just yuk. Granted I don’t claim to be Duncan Keith out there but normally I am one of the better defense 1st D men we have (or maybe I just suck and I can leave it at that!).

But the good highlight for said GeekJock was while moving up to F with less then 30 seconds left up by one, and on the PP, I let one of the young guns play D for the heavy shot. So with one of our guys (Johnny Cakes)  pressing the break out pass behind the net, the D-man either didn’t see me in the slot, or he saw how shitty I was playing and figured I wouldn’t get the pass anyway, and he tried to go vaguely up the middle with a pass. I picked it off, skated a step in and slid the puck over to Johnny who slapped it home pretty easy to put us up by 2 with 15 or so seconds left and they just basically ran out the clock.

Normally I wouldn’t tell pointless stories but hey, I get points in hockey less then I get lucky with a certain someone so it’s always a good day for any points Grin

Also this weekend was our annual Kappa Psi Golf tourney. It’s always a good time. We get to see some brothers you don’t normally get to see, raise some money for a scholarship fund for a brother who unfortunately passed away when she was a student a few years ago (It’s a professional Frat so co-ed), and hey best ball tourneys are just plain fun. Now golf is one of the few things worse then I play hockey, mainly b/c of my damn baseball/hockey swing entrenched in my head. I am constantly trying to overcome that in my swing. Well, that and the fact that I play all of 2 times a year MAX. Generally both are best ball, which us hackers love. We had a great time and none of us were very good so we all contributed swings here and there (also a plus). But, again, I will cover the highlight of my tourney which came on the last hole and last shot! We were just winding down, the sun was starting to set and we were all tired. We were sitting 100 feet from the pin (no shit!). I got up there and lined it up a bit. It was a weird green, uphill down hill then up again. I looked at it did my best to judge it and BAM, took the shot. Obviously I wouldn’t be telling this story if I didn’t sink the put, but my God it was fricking a shot to remember! A great end to a great day. And yes I lost my share of balls as well.

Enjoy your week everybody

GJ out.

WoW:Cataclysm Rumored to release Nov 2? Who scores, who loses?

Published by under Games,MMOs,World of Warcraft

Well MMO-Championrecently said that Cataclysm would be releasing on Nov 2nd.  They tend to have a ton of sources andwhen they say some things they tend to be right. This doesn’t mean that Blizzard won’t push it back at all but I think the date is fairly solid. One big prognosticator of this is  Patch 4.01 is on the PTR. Thats a pretty good indicator that it’s nearing the release or the pre-release world events to come pretty soon. In the past they have had some events leading up to the releases. Before Burning Crusade they had the portal there with some quest givers, as some sort of fight for the portal etc. That was kinda cool in the way that you did a few fun quests and then got a tabard. Sure it did nothing (IIRC) but the quests were kinda good and it was the 1st expansion so it was a huge thing we were working up to. Right before the Lich King release we had the dreaded zombie invasion. For whatever reason (I might have just gone inactive kinda like I am now.. burnt out by the lul before the expansions) I didn’t get involved much with that event.

This time some of the events have already started. I guess it’s safe to call the retaking of Gnomeregan and the Echo Isles as “world events”. Again b/c of work and the dastarly NHL 11 release last week, I haven’t played much WoW at all so I cannot comment on these events. I might get into game sometime this week off and play the Gnomeregan part some but it will have to be before tuesday. Mainly b/c tuesday is the Civilization V release date and basically, that’s going to be taking up all my gaming time for a while. I am pretty sure they will be having some other big events planned for the time right before the release, such as massive earth quakes in game maybe some sort of other invasion etc. They always also release some of the things, like new talent trees, before the release as well. This prolly helps guys get acclimated and they can get some balance feedback as well. And it helps them keep everyone happy with some sort of “content” before the real release.

So who scores with this release date? Who are the losers here? Well there are probably more winners then losers.  The players obviously are the winners. All of us want it and want it now. Let’s face it. I have been bitching about this for a few months now, but it has been a while. For casuals WoW:WLK is stale and old. Most of the masses haven’t killed Arthas and also just won’t any time soon. We don’t raid 4 hours a night 2-3 nights a week. We are still outfitted with mostly Tier 10 gear but just haven’t made the plunge into ICC 10(+) for one reason or another. So chances are those people have grown tire of the content. They have moved on. Blizzcould be a loser in the short term here b/c chances are many of those have stopped paying for the game until the expansion is released. Yet, they will always come back in droves. With this type of leak of info the players are winners. IT’sonly a month and a half until this date andI tend to believe it. (I do to think of Nov 4th b/c I think they like Thursdays personally but that’s me).

Another winner is Blizz-con and the attendees. This sets up nicely for the convention b/c its roughly 1-2 weeks before this release. This means they don’t have to do TOO much content during the con, but they can still slip in 1-2 big reveals about it. They can also do the pre-release events and have cpu’s set up in the convention center for the people to play the game and people will eat it up. This could also open the door for the usual OTHER big non WoW announcements at Blizzcon. The obvious Diablo 3 announcement and (I hope) the top secret MMO announcement we are all praying for at Blizzcon.

And what about the stock holders? Yes as usual here we as share-holders will be happy with the 4th quarter results. Typically every year Activision/Blizzard has a nice spike in the 4th quarter to help it all look peachy. This year, we will have that 3rd quarter (Starcraft) as well as the 4th (Cataclysm). This should look good in the books for sure.

And all of us cannot forget the retailers. They will be happy as well. They get their midnight release parties and they get to make boo-coo bucks on this release too. However, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they make a lot more digital distribution this year. Steam, Direct 2 Drive or some others. More and more developers are using this as a way to cut costs so it’s definitely possible Blizzard jumps on board. Even with this there will be plenty of us out there who just want the disc in hand, and plenty others who will pre-order and get the collector’s edition box as well.

Ok who are the big losers here? Basically anyone else planning on releasing a game in the general time frame as Cataclysm. Sure, it’s entirely possible that console releases won’t feel too much sales decreases from this CPU mega-monster, but I bet some of them will feel it at least a little. More likely they will see a delay of sales until the Black-Friday and Christmas rushes. The ones I am looking at to take the biggest hits are the MMO’s being released near this date. There are 3 big releases I can pinpoint in the next 2 months (other then the proposed WoW release). These 3 are Final Fantasy XIV, Lego Universe Online, and DC Universe Online.

Of these 3 releases the one I see taking the biggest hit is DCUO. It’s already got so much of a secrecy to it all and not a whole lot of game play has been seen yet to get some hype started. I think more people will be likely to jump back into WoW then to start off in a new MMO they have very little idea about. The other two are more niche games with their own fan bases.  FF XIV has it’s own small rabid fan base that will follow it to the depths of hell so those loyal ones will likely play it anyway. But being it is slated to come out end of Sept, it might get some newer players into it but it will not keep the majority of them for long when Cataclysm comes out. Lego UO is kinda in the same vein. It will appeal to the younger demographic so it will get that group and some families but this is likely to be a micro-transaction game so I bet most people will play this and WoW so it shouldn’t hurt either much, if at all.

DCUO has the most to lose here. It’s trying desperately to make a name for itself and carve out it’s little corner of the MMO market.  It’s more then likely to be a montly sub game, at prolly the same 15$ per month that WoW is. This could lead to a lot of people having to make the one or the other decision on DC vs WoW. And guess who wins? Even the GeekJock who is a HUGE DC comics guy myself, will be choosing WoW over the new MMO and waiting to see the early reviews of DCUO.  I do have a slight idea that if the Nov 2nd release date is kept I wouldn’t be totally surprised if DCUO pushes back their release a month or so to try and get the Christmas rush sales, and also to give some of the hardcore gamers their month of craming WoW in to get tired of it (at least they hope) and then come to DCUO. In either event I am still hoping DCUO is a good game b/c I really want to play it eventually.

On a personal note I am going to add myself as a winner for a couple of reasons. First it gives me about a month and a half to play the hell out of Civ V. This is perfect amount to time toplay the hell out of the game and then want to get something else going. I am sure I will be playing Civ V for a LONG time anyway but at least I will have some exclusive time with it. And like I mentioned above I just want a reason to get back into WoW, b/c leveling alt’s is just old.

So there you have it. I am hoping the info from MMO-Champion is good info, b/c it generally is, but mostly b/c I want to play Cataclysm as soon as possible.

What about you ? What are your thoughts both on the Date and if you will play it or can you even wait 45 more days?
